JORDAN'S SWEATER DRESS

by

It’s been a while since I made anything for Jordan, and she’s been so good lately that I thought she deserved a new dress. The original plan was to make one for each of us, but the growing pile of sewing projects on my bedroom floor (plus the shrinking space in my closet) encouraged me to just sew one for her and wear it vicariously.

In retrospect, the weight of the skirt stretches out the bodice, so I wish I had made the top smaller.

This cozy dress is made out of a poly sweater knit from Fabric Planet; I think it’s $8/yd. The fabric is 100% synthetic: I put it in a purple dye bath and there was absolutely no color change. Ah well, the brown is a good color on Jordan, but it’s part of the reason I opted out of having one of my own.

GLAM-CREEP MASKS

by

In addition to every else I’ve been trying to take care of for Burning Man, I’ve been making these zippered masks like crazy. I actually really love it: the fabric is mostly scraps from bigger projects, it’s the perfect use for small bits of elastic, and the hand-stitching is a form of meditation in my otherwise hectic life. Plus, honestly, the sales make me euphoric!

They are all trimmed in fold-over elastic, and have adjustable elastic straps to keep them securely on. The zippers, like I mentioned, are sewn by hand with some bright embroidery thread. Lately I’ve been mixing up the zippers by cutting the head off one and putting it on the teeth of another, so that both parts are different colors. And now I can’t stop doing it!

Trust me, I know, it’s A LOT of masks!

Delightfully, most of these have sold already but I am constantly making more. If you’d like a particular color combo feel free to send me an email about it, and you can see what I do have available in my Etsy shop!

BLUEBERRY STRIPES

by

Last year I made a dress for my friend Annie, and it was so cute on her that I made a shirt version of it. I see the colors as blue and gray, but the fabric does tend to look purple. What do you think?

blueberry stripesIt’s a V-neck with 3/4 length sleeves–a very elegant design if I say so myself. The jersey was taken from downtown Fabric Planet to the Venice store, because I knew how chic and popular it would be (sad that there isn’t any more!). The more observant among you may recognize this same pattern from an earlier top, also modeled by Miss Cassandra. I’m sure I’ll keep making this pattern in other fabrics for years to come.
